Not necessarily. Floor area is a starting point, but ceiling height, sunlight, window size, insulation and occupancy also affect cooling requirements. Two equally sized rooms may therefore need different capacities.
Comfee Jordan’s calculator starts with 12,000 BTU/h per 16 m² at a 2.8 m ceiling height. This is the calculator’s estimating rule, not a substitute for assessing the room.
For example, a 4 × 4 m room starts at 12,000 BTU/h. With a 3.5 m ceiling, its base estimate becomes 15,000 BTU/h before sunlight and occupancy adjustments.
